Paediatric and Child Health is a branch of medicine focusing on the health and medical care of children from newborns and toddlers to adolescents and young adults.

A Paediatrician is a specialist physician who has completed training as a medical doctor, then undertaken further specialised training in the medical care of children.

Paediatricians take referrals from primary care doctors (such as General Practitioners). Using their knowledge, training and experience in the care of children, a General Paediatrician provides expert diagnosis and comprehensive care for a range of acute and chronic medical conditions, working with patients, their families and other professionals to coordinate the medical care of the child. This can also include the development of children: how they grow, acquire knowledge and skills, and how they learn to behave and socialise.
